LAPD officer shoots and kills man wielding bat near freeway onramp

At approximately 6:30 p.m., the Los Angeles Police Department was alerted to a man threatening pedestrians and hitting occupied cars with a bat near the intersection of Normandie Avenue and Washington Boulevard. By the time officers arrived, the suspect had traveled south along Normandie and was found at the underpass of Freeway 10. Confronted by police while holding the bat, the man was shot and died at the scene after paramedics attempted resuscitation at a nearby hospital.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, and no other individuals were harmed. The bat used in the incident was seized as evidence. Authorities have opened an investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the use of lethal force. The department has not disclosed further details about why officers decided to fire.
