Lara Gut-Behrami Calls Time on Decorated Alpine Ski Career
Swiss alpine star Lara Gut-Behrami announced her retirement after a career that included Olympic gold and 48 World Cup wins.
Lara Gut-Behrami, a leading figure in Swiss alpine skiing, revealed she is retiring after a distinguished tenure that produced 48 World Cup victories, the fifth-most for women. Her achievements include a super-G gold medal at the 2022 Beijing Olympics, two world championship titles in super-G and giant slalom in 2021, and overall World Cup crowns in 2016 and 2024. A serious knee injury suffered during a training run at Copper Mountain in November forced her out of the Milan-Cortina Games, which would have been her fourth Olympics.
The athlete also previously missed the 2010 Vancouver Games because of a hip problem and suffered an ACL tear at the 2017 worlds in St. Moritz. In her statement, Gut-Behrami emphasized a desire to avoid chronic pain and to move on from the relentless push for limits. She intends to settle in England, where her husband Valon Behrami holds a front-office role at Watford.
