Las Vegas Hosts Triple Threat of Security Conferences Amid Scorching Heat and AI Concerns
The security community converges in Las Vegas for BSides, Black Hat and DEF CON, where scorching August temperatures and debates over agentic AI dominate the agenda.
From August 1 to 9, Las Vegas becomes the epicenter of the infosec world as BSides, Black Hat and DEF CON run consecutively, offering a mix of community-driven talks, corporate exhibitions and hands-on hacking villages. The extreme summer heat adds a literal hot-topic, while discussions center on the rise of agentic AI and how to prevent autonomous systems from compromising networks. Black Hat’s opening session features the National Cyber Director alongside CISA acting director, FBI cyber division and Department of Defense cyber policy leaders, emphasizing AI’s role in national security.
Keynotes will explore AI-driven vulnerability discovery and exploit generation, and the event will debut the documentary “Midnight in the War Room.” DEF CON’s “agency” theme, championed by Jake Braun, spotlights the Franklin project, which mobilizes hackers to secure water utilities amid growing threats. Hundreds of volunteers will support over 30 villages covering topics from AI to lockpicking.
