Latino outreach group launches $6 million drive to win Texas House seats for Democrats
A left-leaning organization is investing $6 million to mobilize Hispanic voters in Texas, targeting three South-Texas districts where Republicans currently hold seats.
In Texas, the progressive group Somos Votantes announced a $6 million plan to re-engage Latino voters ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. A $2 million statewide campaign will involve door-to-door conversations and voter-registration drives, while the affiliated Somos PAC will spend $4 million on television advertising in three South-Texas House districts— the 15th, 23rd and newly drawn 35th. These districts were won by Donald Trump with double-digit margins in 2024, and currently feature Republican Rep. Monica De La Cruz, a race with Tejano star Bobby Pulido, a vacant seat after Rep. Tony Gonzalez’s resignation, and a brand-new district.
Melissa Morales, the founder, says the ads will highlight Democratic economic proposals to sway voters who turned to Trump over economic concerns. Winning back Hispanic voters could be decisive for Democrats seeking a modest majority or a larger foothold in the House. The initiative reflects broader efforts to reverse the recent shift of working-class Hispanics toward the GOP in Texas.
Why it matters
Latino voter turnout could determine whether Democrats gain or lose seats in the U.S. House from Texas.
