Lavish La Jolla Oceanfront Estate ‘The Sand Castle’ Listed at Record Price
A 13,000-square-foot mansion called “The Sand Castle” on the La Jolla coast has been put up for sale at a historically high price for the area.
Located along the San Diego coastline in La Jolla, the 13,000-square-foot “Sand Castle” combines grand French-manor inspiration with California beach-house comfort. The compound includes ten ensuite bedrooms, fourteen bathrooms, a guest residence, a pool, fitness center, two cabanas and a boathouse, all finished with 19th-century antiques, gold detailing and custom mosaics. Originally built in 2005 by Doug Manchester, the estate was bought by former ACS founder Darwin Deason fifteen years ago for $26 million.
Architect Drex Patterson of Island Architects and interior designer Timothy Corrigan oversaw its creation, while Compass agents Brett Dickinson and Ross Clark now handle the sale, which is being touted as one of the most expensive residential listings in San Diego County history. The property also boasts a historic 1950s seawall, 163 feet of ocean frontage and a private terrace featuring imported white sand matching that of Augusta National Golf Club.
