Lionsgate's Q1 Revenue Surges on Success of Antoine Fuqua's Michael Biopic

Lionsgate reported a first-quarter net loss of $28.8 million, far narrower than the $109 million loss a year earlier, as overall revenue jumped to $776.6 million, driven by the global box-office performance of the Michael biopic.

Lionsgate announced first-quarter results showing a net loss attributable to shareholders of $28.8 million, a sharp improvement from the $109 million loss recorded a year earlier. Total revenue for the quarter increased to $776.6 million, outpacing Wall Street's $693.1 million projection, largely thanks to the Michael biopic, which has amassed $1.013 billion globally after Universal handled its overseas rollout. Motion-picture earnings rose to $587.3 million, and adjusted OIBDA hit $79.3 million, both exceeding analyst expectations.

The Motion Picture Group posted a record $105 million profit for the quarter, the highest ever for Lionsgate. Conversely, TV production revenue dropped to $189.3 million from $288.5 million, reflecting timing of episodic deliveries, though the studio anticipates a near-doubling of scripted series deliveries and additional revenue from four Power series licensed to Netflix later in the year. CEO Jon Feltheimer highlighted the company's franchise strategy and library strength as drivers of growth into fiscal 2027.
