Local Golf Course Marks 25 Years with Charity Celebration and Youth Programs

On a warm summer Tuesday, Button Hole Golf Course in Providence celebrated its quarter-century of operation with a ceremony that honored founder Ed Mauro and his team of supporters. The event, held under a large white tent near the driving range, featured honorary co-chairmen Billy Andrade and Brad Faxon, who highlighted the course’s role in providing affordable golf instruction to urban youth. A learning center named after Mauro was dedicated, and Mauro reflected on the community’s presence at the gathering.

The venue, originally a gravel pit, now offers a nine-hole par-3 layout, simulators, and serves as the headquarters for the Rhode Island Golf Association. Notable alumni such as LPGA Tour winner Megan Khang were cited as examples of the program’s success, while benefactor Tom Ryan was recognized for his long-term charitable contributions.
