Lok Sabha Speaker asks CPWD to study porch addition at Parliament's Makar Dwar entrance
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has directed the Central Public Works Department to evaluate a covered porch for the Makar Dwar entry used by MPs.
Om Birla requested that CPWD officials and their architects assess the practicality of building a shelter over the Makar Dwar gateway, which currently lacks protection. The proposed structure aims to ease inconvenience for parliamentarians and staff, especially during rain. Officials note that members often wait exposed for their vehicles at the new Parliament House. A feasibility study will be undertaken, though the exact cost has not been disclosed, with estimates reportedly reaching around Rs 1,300 crore.
