Long Beach Tops Rankings for Outdoor Social Spots, Los Angeles Falls to Bottom

Using data from Google Maps, Yelp and Google search trends, Maxwell Social ranked 45 of the nation’s largest cities on five per-capita metrics for outdoor socializing. Long Beach secured the number-one spot, while Oakland and Atlanta took second and third places respectively. Los Angeles, along with Phoenix and Houston, fell to the bottom of the list.

The study relied on U.S. Census Bureau population estimates and included a poll of 1,000 residents who said many cities lack sufficient outdoor venues. New York City was cited as the city most associated with outdoor social life, and over a quarter of respondents said they travel to other cities for better outdoor drinking options. The findings highlight a growing demand for more public spaces where people can gather outdoors.
