Low Light Films acquires Basil Da Cunha's Locarno-competing thriller “O Jacaré”
Barcelona-based Low Light Films has secured distribution rights to Basil Da Cunha’s new feature “O Jacaré,” which will debut in the International Competition at the Locarno Film Festival.
“O Jacaré,” Basil Da Cunha’s final portrait of Lisbon’s Reboleira district before its slated demolition, will compete in the main International Competition at the Locarno Film Festival. The thriller follows a community’s frantic search for €180,000, using Cape Verdean funk and a cast drawn from the neighbourhood itself. Production credits include Thera Production, co-producer Continue Walking, and RTS Radio Télévision Suisse.
Barcelona-based Low Light Films announced it has acquired the film ahead of its world premiere, with founder Jainer Morales Mena praising the project’s vibrancy and cultural depth. Da Cunha described the work as both a celebration and a preservation of Reboleira’s disappearing life. The acquisition positions the film for broader international distribution and festival exposure.
