The latest installment of the "Diamond King" podcast recounts a meeting between fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya and fellow billionaire Nirav Modi at Mallya's upscale Regent's Park residence in London. According to a diamond-trade insider, Mallya cautioned Modi that his overt presence in the city made him vulnerable, calling him a fool for being so exposed. Modi allegedly disregarded the warning, frequenting public cafés on Oxford Street and only later hiring rotating private chefs to prepare meals at his flat.
The source also suggested that Modi's confidence may have stemmed from Mallya's own evasion tactics, though he ultimately failed to secure bail and has been incarcerated for seven years despite an Interpol red notice. The podcast speculates that Modi may have filed a second asylum request, which could explain his continued detention. Anand Doobay, the solicitor representing Modi and also used by Mallya, offered no comment.
