Man crashes into vehicle, then assaults driver and passenger in Carlsbad
Orlando Query Chavez, 49, rear-ended a Silverado on an I-5 off-ramp in Carlsbad and subsequently punched and stabbed the two occupants.
Around 7 p.m. on Sunday, Orlando Query Chavez, 49, struck the rear of a white Chevrolet Silverado on the Interstate 5 off-ramp at Tamarack Avenue in Carlsbad. Video captured Chavez leaving his vehicle, his pants slipping as he lunged at the Silverado’s driver’s side, and repeatedly punching and stabbing the occupants—a 23-year-old female driver and a 27-year-old male passenger. A witness described the attacker as “acting crazy,” delivering multiple blows and five stab wounds to the passenger and three to the driver, who suffered facial injuries.
Paramedics treated the victims for abdominal, leg and facial wounds before they were discharged from the hospital. Oceanside Police arrested Chavez shortly after the incident, and he was booked into the Vista Detention Facility on counts of attempted murder and battery with serious bodily injuries, with bail denied.
