Man detained after brandishing knife at Israeli pavilion during Edmonton festival

During the Edmonton Heritage Festival, a man approached the Israeli pavilion and tried to cut the tent with a knife, according to footage shared on social media. Festival security and a volunteer stopped the assailant, who was then taken into custody by police. Stacey Leavitt-Wright of the Jewish Federation of Edmonton confirmed the event and noted that the investigation remains active, with official comments pending a police announcement.

Following the incident, dancers slated for a 3 p.m. performance were escorted to a shelter and later given the option to perform a shortened set, which they chose despite hostile chants. The Abraham Global Peace Initiative condemned the act as an alleged violent breach rather than a protest. Police have not released the suspect's identity, and the case is ongoing.
