Manchester United acknowledges errors in ticket-touting probe and fan distress
Manchester United said it misjudged how many supporters share login details during its ticket-touting investigation, causing upset among some season-ticket holders.
Manchester United began a ticket-touting investigation in June, flagging accounts that showed multiple logins from a single device, such as one instance involving 1,088 accounts. The club soon realized that a large number of loyal supporters routinely share account credentials, a behavior it had underestimated. Following a fan forum on 30 July where grievances were aired, United accepted that its execution caused unnecessary anxiety for some season-ticket holders.
The club clarified that tickets will only be seized when there is evidence of organized resale, systematic misuse, or profit-driven activity, and that most restricted accounts have now had limits removed. United also stressed that any reclaimed season tickets will be re-issued to fans rather than sold as corporate hospitality. The investigation remains ongoing, with supporters given a 14-day window to respond.
Why it matters
Fans need clarity on ticket policies to avoid wrongful restrictions and ensure fair access to matches.
