Marine recruit dies after medical emergency during fitness test at Camp Pendleton
A Marine Corps recruit suffered a fatal medical event while completing a routine fitness assessment at Camp Pendleton and was declared dead four days later.
During a scheduled physical fitness evaluation on Aug. 1 at the Camp Pendleton base near San Diego, a Marine recruit experienced a sudden medical emergency. The individual was transported to Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside, where they were pronounced dead on Aug. 5. The recruit’s name has not been released, and both the circumstances of the death and a medical review remain under investigation. The Marine Corps said it is providing privacy and support to the recruit’s family and will not issue further details at this time.
