Mary Trump says her uncle is clueless about Chinese arms to Iran

Psychologist Mary Trump criticized President Donald Trump for appearing unaware of reports that China is supplying missile systems to Iran.

When reporters asked President Donald Trump about one outlet's story on Chinese missile launchers bound for Iran, he called the prospect "surprising" and claimed Chinese leader Xi Jinping had assured him no arms would be sent. Mary Trump, a psychologist and his niece, replied that the president clearly does not know what is happening, or is choosing to act ignorant. She argued that Xi may have misled Trump or that Trump is ignoring the reality.

The Chinese shipment involves hundreds of portable air-defense systems intended to rebuild Iran’s depleted defenses after U.S. and Israeli strikes. Mary Trump warned that the new weaponry could threaten U.S. troops and allies, and criticized the president’s dismissive attitude as inadequate for handling such threats.

Why it matters

The comments highlight concerns over U.S. leadership’s grasp of emerging China-Iran arms cooperation.
