Matt Short's rapid fifty steers Welsh Fire to six-wicket win over Southern Brave

Welsh Fire secured their fourth win in five Hundred matches by beating Southern Brave by six wickets at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. After captain Phil Salt fell early, Matt Short and Joe Root forged a 56-run partnership that set the platform for the chase of 116. Short later accelerated, hitting a fifty in 37 balls and ending unbeaten on 60, highlighted by a six off Jofra Archer.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore contributed an unbeaten 23 as the side reached the target with five balls remaining. Southern Brave, rattled by early dismissals of Jamie Smith and Ben McKinney, relied on Marcus Stoinis’s 55-run innings, but were dismissed for 115-8, with Sam Cook claiming 3-14. The win placed Welsh Fire level on points with Trent Rockets at the top of the table, while Southern Brave remain fourth with two wins from six games.
