Poetic License, the directorial debut of Maude Apatow, has secured a worldwide distribution agreement with Sony Pictures Classics, targeting a 2027 theatrical release. The story, penned by Raffi Donatich, centers on a mother-to-be who audits a poetry class in a small college town and unwittingly draws the romantic interest of two co-eds. The film, produced by Judd Apatow and featuring Leslie Mann, Cooper Hoffman, Andrew Barth Feldman, Nico Parker, Cliff "Method Man" Smith, Martha Kelly, Maisy Stella and Will Price, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Its original distributor, the fledgling Row K, folded after internal departures and financial strain, prompting WME Independent to seek a new buyer. Sony Pictures Classics' acquisition follows the company's historic catalog, and Maude Apatow expressed enthusiasm about joining the label. Row K is reportedly negotiating with Neon for another title, Cliffhanger, starring Lily James.
