Mayor Mamdani and Police Commissioner Tisch appear united at crime-prevention events

At the National Night Out Against Crime gatherings in Brooklyn’s Bed-Stuy and Manhattan’s Harlem, Mayor Zohran Mamdani and NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch presented a friendly front, emphasizing cooperation between residents and police. Tisch highlighted the city’s historic lows in murders, shootings and shooting victims, while Mamdani thanked officers for delivering “public safety at record levels.” The joint appearances come days after Tisch reportedly denounced antisemitic rhetoric and pledged protection for Jewish New Yorkers following recent stabbings on the Upper West Side.

Those attacks, which targeted a Jewish man wearing a yarmulke and an Asian man, have been linked by some Jewish groups to Mamdani’s outspoken anti-Israel stance. Earlier, Mamdani had labeled the NYPD as “racist,” underscoring the contrast with today’s collaborative messaging.
