Meghann Fahy Leads HBO’s New Limited Series on the Louise Woodward Trial

HBO has commissioned a limited series titled The Trial of Louise Woodward, starring Meghann Fahy as the eponymous British au pair whose 1997 murder-accusation case captivated the United States and United Kingdom. The series is being written and run by Matthew Barry, known for Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, with Emmy-winning director Susanne Bier attached as executive producer together with Frank Spotnitz, Emily Feller, Tobi de Graaff and Antoine Douaihy.

Production is slated to start in August, targeting a 2027 release. HBO’s Francesca Orsi praised the collaboration, noting the story’s enduring relevance to issues of childcare, class and media scrutiny. Fahy, who earned an Emmy nod for The White Lotus, previously worked with Bier on Netflix’s The Perfect Couple and has credits including Sirens and Drop. The project aims to explore the complex social questions raised by the original trial.
