Mets forge historic alliance with prediction market platform Novig
The New York Mets announced a multi-year deal with Novig, becoming the first MLB club to partner with a sports prediction market.
In a surprise announcement, the New York Mets entered a multi-year partnership with Novig, marking the first collaboration between a Major League Baseball team and a sports prediction market. Lew Sherr, the Mets’ President of Business Operations, highlighted the move as evidence of the club’s commitment to staying at the cutting edge of the sports industry. Novig, launched in 2021 by Harvard graduates Jacob Fortinsky (CEO) and Kelechi Ukah (CTO), recently secured MLB’s official partner status and a CFTC designation, allowing it to operate nationwide after a summer relaunch.
While the NFL has pushed for tighter restrictions on such markets, the Mets’ deal suggests a broader acceptance within professional sports. This is not the franchise’s first venture with a smaller betting brand; they previously partnered with PointsBet, which was later absorbed by Fanatics Sportsbook. The Mets declined to comment further on the arrangement.
Why it matters
The deal shows MLB teams exploring new fan-engagement tools and signals growing legitimacy for regulated prediction markets.
