Mexico clinches 2028 Olympic spot after 2-1 win over Canada
Mexico's U-20 men secured a berth for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics by defeating Canada 2-1 in the semifinal.
The Concacaf U-20 Championship semifinal in Mexico City saw Mexico's men's U-20 side beat Canada 2-1, earning a direct qualification for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. Canada opened the scoring in the sixth minute thanks to Owen Graham-Roache, while Mexico responded after the break with a goal from defender Cristobal Alfaro. Midway through the second half, Canada midfielder Liam Mackenzie received a second yellow card and was sent off after a disputed hand-to-face incident.
With Canada reduced to ten men, Mexico capitalised when Chivas winger Hugo Camberos scored from the spot, securing the win. The United States, already in the final, will host the Games, and three Concacaf teams will qualify alongside the host. Mexico's Olympic men’s soccer history includes a gold medal in 2012 and a bronze in Tokyo 2020.
