Michigan couple charged after tossing bomb with ominous note into neighbor's yard

Jason and Megan Showers of St. Clair Shores were arrested for throwing a red, cylindrical explosive marked “BYE BYE” into a 72-year-old neighbor’s property.

Authorities in Macomb County allege that Jason Showers, 45, and his wife Megan, 38, threw a red, cylindrical bomb bearing the words “BYE BYE” into the yard of a 72-year-old neighbor in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. The neighbor was able to put out the device before it detonated. Police later searched the Showers residence and found firearms, ammunition and components for assembling explosives.

The pair are charged with placing explosives near property and possessing bombs with unlawful intent, each carrying a maximum sentence of 15 years; Jason also faces prohibited-person firearm charges and mandatory consecutive sentences. Because Jason is a habitual offender with at least four prior felonies, a judge could impose life imprisonment on any of the top charges. They made their first court appearance, with Jason’s cash-only bond set at $100,000 and Megan’s at $20,000, both under restrictions that bar contact with each other and the neighbor.
