Michigan Senate hopeful el Sayed downplays streamer Hasan Piker’s influence in primary

In the wake of a heated Democratic primary in Michigan, nominee Abdul el Sayed minimized the role of Twitch personality Hasan Piker, calling him “just a streamer.” Despite Piker’s vocal support and appearances at el Sayed’s events, the candidate said his priority is winning the Senate seat and rallying all voters. El Sayed’s campaign has centered on rejecting corporate PAC money, repeatedly attacking Stevens for taking millions from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.

He acknowledged Piker’s perspective but refused to adopt it, focusing instead on building trust with the electorate. Senator John Fetterman publicly dared el Sayed to continue campaigning with Piker, implying the partnership could hurt his chances. The race now heads to a general election showdown with Republican former Rep. Mike Rogers. El Sayed hopes Stevens’s endorsement will translate into votes for him.
