Microsoft adds memory-efficiency goals, says 8 GB RAM will suffice for Windows 11

In a recent Windows Insider blog post, Microsoft’s executive VP for Windows and Devices Pavan Davuluri detailed four new focus areas aimed at polishing Windows 11. Among them is a memory-optimization effort that seeks to lower the OS’s baseline memory usage, allowing systems with 8 GB of RAM to run the OS quickly and reliably. This follows a March 2026 pledge to improve Windows stability after growing user frustration.

Davuluri also highlighted work on removing certain AI features, boosting driver quality, and simplifying the Insider program. Additional goals include a faster out-of-box experience, easier parental-control setup for families, and more natural voice interaction across apps. While the timeline for these changes remains unspecified, Microsoft emphasized that it is acting on clear user signals to make Windows less “flaky and needy.”
