Mike Rogers clinches GOP nod for Michigan Senate seat, eyes pivotal general election

Mike Rogers, a former FBI special agent who chaired the House Intelligence Committee, emerged as the Republican nominee for Michigan’s vacant Senate seat after an uncontested primary. The open seat resulted from Democratic Sen. Gary Peters’ decision not to seek re-election, creating a prime pickup opportunity for Republicans. Rogers previously lost a close race to Democrat Elissa Slotkin in 2024, a loss that elevated his profile and secured backing from Donald Trump and other national GOP figures.

With no intra-party opposition, he has been able to amass campaign funds, expand his statewide network, and concentrate on issues such as border security, the economy, inflation, and public safety. The Democratic primary featured a contest between centrist Rep. Haley Stevens and progressive Abdul el Sayed, highlighting ideological splits within the party.
