Minor caught with live ammunition while trying to visit lover in Uttar Pradesh jail
A schoolgirl attempting to meet her boyfriend at Gonda jail was stopped at the gate, where officials discovered ten live cartridges, cash and a fake Aadhaar card.
On Thursday, a minor schoolgirl travelled to the District Jail in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, to meet an undertrial prisoner she had been dating for about a year. When she reached the entrance, jail officials could not verify the details she gave and ordered a search between the security gates. The search uncovered ten live pistol or revolver cartridges, cash and an Aadhaar card with the name "Vaishnavi" that did not match the name she initially supplied.
Jailor Aftab Ahmed Ansari blocked her entry and transferred her, along with the seized items, to the Nagar Kotwali police. Investigators are examining whether the ammunition came from a licensed firearm owned by the girl's father, an advocate, and are also checking how the counterfeit identity document was obtained. The inmate she sought to visit, a resident of Chhedipurwa in Gonda's Jankinagar area, has been held since June 29 on a POCSO charge and faces eight other criminal cases. The case has been registered under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act, with Sub-Inspector Arpita Yadav assigned to lead the probe.
