Mitchell Starc on the cusp of matching Kapil Dev's Test wicket record

Mitchell Starc is one wicket shy of equalling Kapil Dev's 434 Test dismissals as Australia prepare to host Bangladesh in a two-Test series beginning on Aug 13.

Australia's premier fast bowler Mitchell Starc stands at 433 Test wickets, just one short of matching Indian great Kapil Dev's 434, ahead of a two-Test series against Bangladesh that starts in Darwin on Aug 13. Two wickets would see him overtake Dev and enter the top ten of all-one outlet Test wicket-takers, while a total of seven across the series would also eclipse South African legend Dale Steyn's 439. Starc described the prospect as "cool and very humbling" but noted that such figures mean little while he remains active, emphasizing that his longevity stems from constant refinement and skill development.

He currently leads the ICC World Test Championship wicket tally with 46 dismissals from eight matches. The second Test will be played in Mackay from Aug 22-26, offering further chances to climb the record books.

Why it matters

The milestone would cement Starc among cricket's elite fast-bowling wicket-takers.
