Mob kills 22-year-old accused of raping 13-year-old in Jharkhand, eight detained

A 22-year-old man accused of abducting and raping a teenage girl was beaten to death by villagers in Chatra district, Jharkhand, and eight people were arrested.

In Chatra district of Jharkhand, a 22-year-old man alleged to have kidnapped and sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl was captured by a mob and beaten with fists, kicks and sticks, leading to his death at a hospital. The girl had been missing since Sunday night and reported the assault to her family on Monday, prompting villagers to search for the accused. Police arrived after the mob had already seized the suspect, but were unable to prevent the violence.

Eight people were taken into custody on Tuesday, and the senior police officer said more participants will be arrested soon. The victim is undergoing a medical examination, and extra police forces have been sent to the area to maintain order.
