Modi leads cabinet review of Middle East crisis and India's energy and fertilizer readiness
Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level Cabinet Committee on Security meeting to assess the impact of the Middle East conflict on India's fuel, fertilizer supplies and overseas citizens.
In New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a fourth special meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security to evaluate how the ongoing Middle East war could affect India. The gathering, which included Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh and NSA chief Ajit Doval, received a briefing from the Cabinet Secretary on fuel logistics, noting diversified LPG sources and sufficient crude oil enabling refineries to run above full capacity.
The government highlighted projects to widen piped natural gas connections, boost the National Gas Grid, and increase LNG import and regasification capabilities. Attention was also given to ensuring adequate fertilizer supplies ahead of the Rabi cropping season, with directives to seek alternative sources if needed. Modi ordered the creation of a dedicated mechanism to provide timely information, emergency aid and counselling to Indian seafarers and their families in conflict areas, and urged a shift toward renewable energy to strengthen long-term security.
