Moms for Liberty leader claims teachers unions prioritize politics over education

In an interview, Moms for Liberty CEO Tina Descovich contended that the National Education Association and the American Federation of Teachers devote members’ dues to political causes instead of addressing poor student performance, citing a Department of Education assessment that shows a record share of seniors lacking proficiency in reading and math. She pointed to union-approved resolutions that keep gender-related information from parents and endorse progressive measures such as eliminating ICE and designating May 1 as a day of civic action.

Descovich further argued that teachers are compelled to join unions and that 99% of union political donations go to Democrats, which she says contradicts many teachers’ personal beliefs. Descovich concluded that the situation reflects a broader pattern of political financing and influence in education policy.
