Morgan County residents ordered to evacuate as Rocky Canyon wildfire spreads
Authorities told people living between Whites Crossing and East Canyon Dam to leave their homes on Sunday because the Rocky Canyon Fire kept growing.
A wildfire that started on Friday in Morgan County, known as the Rocky Canyon Fire, grew to roughly 2,800 acres by Sunday and still had 0% containment, prompting officials to order evacuations for residents from Whites Crossing to East Canyon Dam. The Utah Fire Info agency directed people to leave the area and set up a shelter at the Trojan Century Center of Morgan High School, located at 699 E. Young St. Firefighters are working the perimeter with bulldozers, constructing fire lines, and deploying aircraft, while investigators continue to probe the fire’s origin.
East Canyon State Park announced an evacuation for its north end, covering Dixie Creek Campground and day-use zones, and advised all visitors to depart immediately. Portions of State Route 66 and State Route 65 were also closed due to the fire and expected smoke. Residents were urged to stay alert, follow instructions from emergency personnel, and avoid the burn-operation zone.
