Mrs. Met Becomes First Female Inductee into Mascot Hall of Fame

The New York Mets revealed that their longtime mascot, Mrs. Met, has been selected for induction into the Mascot Hall of Fame, becoming the first woman mascot to earn the accolade. Debuting at Shea Stadium on Opening Day in 1975 as part of baseball's first mascot couple, she returned to prominence in 2013 after a period of absence. Her election places her in the Hall's eleventh class alongside figures such as South Carolina’s Cocky and BYU’s Cosmo, and joins Mr. Met, who was inducted in 2007, making the Mets the first franchise with two mascots honored.

Katie Haas, the Mets' executive vice president and chief of ballpark operations, called the recognition a historic milestone for mascots across professional sports. The announcement was made on Good Morning America on Friday.
