Mudryk poised to feature for Chelsea in Hong Kong friendly after doping ban lift

Ukraine winger Mykhailo Mudryk may play for Chelsea in a Hong Kong exhibition after his provisional meldonium suspension was cleared.

Chelsea has included Mykhailo Mudryk in the lineup for an upcoming friendly versus Juventus in Hong Kong, marking his first potential appearance since a provisional meldonium suspension in November 2024. The Ukrainian international was cleared to return after the Football Association resolved his case, and manager Xabi Alonso said he can be selected, albeit perhaps not for a full match. Mudryk joined the squad for an open training session at Kai Tak Stadium, where his image was displayed on the big screen and he took part in possession drills, even play-fighting with defender Tosin Adarabioyo.

He also participated in set-piece work under new coach Austin MacPhee and attacking drills led by Alonso. While Chelsea evaluates his fitness, the club faces loan interest from several Premier League sides, Coventry City, and clubs abroad, with a decision expected before the September transfer deadline.

Why it matters

Mudryk's return could affect Chelsea's squad depth and the player's future loan or transfer options.
