Multiple trackside fires force Greater Anglia to suspend services near London
A series of grass fires near Waltham Cross halted Greater Anglia trains on a line serving London Liverpool Street, causing delays and cancellations.
Around 14:57 BST, Greater Anglia announced that a fire at Waltham Cross in Hertfordshire forced a complete halt to trains on one of its lines serving London Liverpool Street. The London Fire Brigade instructed the suspension because several fires were burning close to the tracks, prompting the deployment of 14 fire engines to a grass fire near Lea Road in Waltham Abbey. The interruption affected routes to Stansted Airport in Essex, Cambridge North, Meridian Water in Hertfordshire and Hertford East, with many services delayed, cancelled or diverted via Seven Sisters.
Network Rail officers were on site, working swiftly to bring services back to normal. Further updates on the number of incidents in the area were sought by the rail operator.
