Mysterious passerby alerts Las Vegas family to early-morning house fire
A stranger knocked on a Las Vegas home’s door before a predawn blaze, shouted warning, and helped fight the flames before disappearing.
Shortly before 5 a.m. on July 5, a house fire erupted in the backyard of a Las Vegas Valley home. A passerby stopped, hammered on the front door and shouted “Fire!” alerting Danna Shabtai, who woke with her dog and rushed to safety with her infant son. Shabtai’s sister fetched a garden hose, and the stranger also seized a hose from a neighbor’s yard to combat the flames.
The family escaped, warned nearby residents, and later posted on social media to identify the unknown rescuer. Video from the home’s surveillance shows the fire spreading across the backyard. Officials have not yet determined the fire’s cause, though fireworks were mentioned as a possible factor.
