Naked man scales Brooklyn Bridge, jumps into East River and survives
A 44-year-old man climbed the north tower of the Brooklyn Bridge, stripped off his clothes, leapt from the span and was rescued from the East River in stable condition.
At approximately 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, a 44-year-old man managed to climb the north tower of the Brooklyn Bridge on the Manhattan side, where he affixed multiple flags and stripped off his garments. Police officers from the NYPD Emergency Services Unit engaged him in an effort to secure his safe descent, but he instead leapt from the historic span. The Harbor Unit quickly retrieved him from the East River.
Emergency responders transported the survivor to NYC Health+Hospitals Bellevue, and hospital officials listed him as being in stable condition. The messages displayed on the flags have not yet been identified. Authorities continue to investigate the incident as it develops.
