NBA guard Terry Rozier seeks dismissal of half the charges in betting scandal

Terry Rozier, a former Charlotte Hornets shooting guard now with the Miami Heat, filed a motion asking U.S. District Judge LaShann DeArcy Hall to dismiss two of the four counts in a federal sports-betting case. He points to a text from co-defendant Deniro Laster that references his nickname "Chum," arguing the message proves the alleged bribe was not hidden and should end the prosecution. Prosecutors responded that the text chain is unrelated to the gambling scheme.

Rozier also contends that counts three and four are legally deficient and duplicate earlier charges, and he seeks to move the case from the Eastern District of New York to the Southern District of Florida. His teammate Marves "Vez" Fairley has already admitted to bribery, wire fraud and money-laundering. Rozien is out on a $3 million bond, prohibited from gambling, and barred from contacting potential player witnesses. The trial is scheduled for February 2027.
