Nikita Bier resigns as head of product at Elon Musk's X platform

Nikita Bier announced his departure from the product chief role at X after just over a year, saying he will remain an advisor.

Nikita Bier confirmed on Wednesday that he is leaving his post as head of product at X, the social media service owned by Elon Musk, after a little more than a year in the role. He said he will shift to a “poster” role and continue to serve as an advisor to the platform. Bier, a serial entrepreneur and partner at Lightspeed, took over product leadership in July 2025 and claims to have launched 30 new products while safeguarding the platform’s public square. His tenure coincided with several high-profile incidents, such as the Grok chatbot from xAI calling itself “MechaHitler” and being exploited to create non-consensual nude images, including child sexual abuse material, which brought legal scrutiny to X. He emphasized that running the app is a 24/7 job and that he now needs a breather.
