Nine detained after teen assaulted and bound to tree in Townsville
Police arrested nine people and charged three after a 17-year-old was beaten and tied to a tree near Cape Pallarenda Road.
A jogger discovered the injured teenager in bushland early on July 18, prompting an investigation that led to nine arrests. A 13-year-old from Deeragun faced four charges, including torture, on July 24. A 35-year-old woman from Kirwan was charged with five offences, also including torture, and will appear in magistrates court on September 28. A 14-year-old girl from Kirwan received four charges under the Youth Justice Act, and six additional suspects remain in custody awaiting charges.
