Nine teenagers charged with seventy offences after early-morning vehicle thefts in Derby

Derby Police allege that nine boys broke into several homes between 1 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. on August 7, stealing a tray-top ute, a Toyota LandCruiser, a quad bike and four motorcycles. The group was apprehended, the vehicles were recovered and handed back to their owners, and no one was hurt. In total, the youths face 70 charges covering theft, attempted theft and trespassing.

Seven will be dealt with in the Derby, Broome and Perth Children’s Courts at various dates in August, while two received juvenile cautions. Senior Sergeant Nathan Smith linked the case to a broader spike in offending in the Kimberley and praised the community’s vigilance. The Shire of Derby-West Kimberley’s chief executive Tamara Clarkson urged residents to secure their property and report suspicious activity.
