North Carolina man fatally shoots teenage girlfriend during highway drive after murder-suicide texts
A 23-year-old man shot his 19-year-old girlfriend while she was driving on I-77 near Mooresville, then injured himself; she later died at the hospital.
Mooresville Police responded to a shooting on I-77’s Exit 35 ramp, finding a black Kia riddled with four bullet holes and a tire torn off after erratic driving. Inside, 23-year-old J’Kobe Tre’shon Ramseur had pointed a firearm at his 19-year-old girlfriend, Justice Wells, and fired multiple shots as she tried to wrestle the gun away. The pair had exchanged a marathon of texts since midnight, with Ramseur repeatedly pressuring Wells to agree to a murder-suicide plan before the incident.
Both victims were taken to Carolinas Medical Center in critical condition; Wells succumbed to a head wound, while Ramseov survived a self-inflicted temple wound. Authorities upgraded his charge to first-degree murder following her death. Police Chief Ron Campurciani warned the community about the dangers of escalating domestic violence and noted Ramseur’s known involvement in other regional investigations.
