North Carolina repeat offender arrested after posting violent assaults on social media

Di-Quan Schafar Hunt was taken into custody after police linked his social-media videos to a July 30 assault in Charlotte, where he punched a woman and later chased another victim.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department arrested Di-Quan Schafar Hunt after reviewing several videos he posted that depicted violent behavior. In one clip, filmed on July 30 in the 400 block of East Boulevard, Hunt punched a woman and shouted racial slurs before fleeing the scene. A second, undated video shows him charging at another woman on a sidewalk and chasing her around a car.

Police acted on an "attempt to locate" call, detained Hunt on an existing warrant, and escorted him to a medical center before moving him to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, where he was charged with assault with a deadly weapon. Hunt, a well-known vagrant, has been arrested at least nine times in the past 34 months for offenses ranging from simple assault to weapons violations, and he has recent convictions for assault with a deadly weapon and carrying a concealed weapon. His pattern of violent conduct and the public posting of the attacks raise concerns about community safety and the spread of such content online.
