NSW Government Accepts Majority of Coroner’s Recommendations on Bondi Junction Attack

Six months after the Westfield Bondi Junction coronial inquest, the NSW government declared it will implement the bulk of the 13 recommendations aimed at it. It fully backs 11 recommendations and supports two in principle, including the formation of a police-psychiatrist working group to review fitness-for-weapons assessments and the modelling of short-term accommodation for individuals facing mental-health crises and homelessness.

The government also pledged to seek health-sector advice on the decline of outreach services, to expand co-responder models pairing police with mental-health specialists, and to broaden knife-wanding powers at crowded venues. An "Escape. Hide.

Tell" public-awareness campaign will be developed, while NSW Ambulance will add tranexamic acid to its kits and finalize a revised major-incident response plan. Additional actions involve reviewing inter-agency radio protocols and exploring a rescue task-force concept.
