NYC to auction original Knicks championship street sign from 2026 parade

The New York City Department of Transportation announced an online surplus auction for the genuine “Champions Way” street sign that stood on Broadway during the Knicks’ 2026 ticker-tape parade, commemorating the team’s first championship in 53 years. The 36-by-9-inch aluminum sign, produced by the DOT’s Sign Shop in Maspeth, Queens, was one of only thirty installed along the Canyon of Heroes. Bidding opened on July 29 at a minimum of $100 and surged to $7,100 within a day, with ten participants.

The auction will close on August 12 at 8 p.m. ET, and all revenue is earmarked for New York City initiatives. City officials, including Yume Kitasei of the Department of Citywide Administrative Services and DOT Commissioner Mike Flynn, praised the item as a rare piece of civic and sports history. The sale follows other fan-focused giveaways, such as the recent “No Need to Knick a Bin” contest run by the Sanitation Department.
