Obama-linked fundraiser on Martha’s Vineyard draws millions for Democratic redistricting group

Every August, an elite fundraiser on Martha’s Vineyard gathers affluent donors to support the National Democratic Redistricting Committee, a political action committee launched by Barack Obama and former Attorney General Eric Holder. The gathering, described as ultra-exclusive, typically brings in between $1.5 million and $2 million for the NDRC’s campaign to promote what it calls fair district maps. Philanthropist George Soros has donated about $2.6 million to the organization, and a 2025 grant from Democracy PAC of $500,000 is also noted.

The committee recently lauded Maryland’s General Assembly for putting a redistricting amendment on the ballot, a measure that would shift the state’s congressional seats from a mixed partisan split to an all-Democratic delegation. While the NDRC frames its work as a fight against gerrymandering, opponents point out that the group’s own initiatives also aim to secure partisan advantages. The fundraiser’s location on the Obamas’ Martha’s Vineyard property underscores the high-profile nature of the event.
