Ohio State coach Ryan Day flags offensive line and depth chart questions after first practice

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day said the offensive line and several backup positions are his biggest concerns following the team’s first preseason practice.

Ryan Day began his eighth season at Ohio State with a focus on securing another AP top-10 ranking, after the Buckeyes fell short of defending their 2024 title. After the first preseason drill, he highlighted the offensive line as a primary worry, moving Austin Siereveld to right guard to test Ian Moore at left tackle while four starters remain eligible. The tight end room, depleted by the departures of Will Kacmarek and Max Klare, now features Bennett Christian, Nate Roberts, and newcomers Mason Williams and Hunter Welcing.

At receiver, All-American Jeremiah Smith returns alongside senior Brandon Inniss, with fresh talent like Chris Henry Jr. and transfers Devin McCuin and Kyle Parker competing for spots. Running back depth will be decided between returning 1,000-yard rusher Bo Jackson, offseason standout Isaiah West, and freshman Legend Bey, who missed practice due to a team-rules issue. Ohio State opens the season at home against Ball State on Sept. 5 before a potential top-10 clash with Texas the following week.
