Ondeen venue closure leaves Adelaide couples scrambling for new wedding sites

Ondeen, a popular restaurant and cellar door in Verdun, Adelaide Hills, disclosed that it received a lease termination notice and had to cease operations, even though rent was paid in full the previous week. Engaged couples, including Mia Anfiteatro, who now faces $15,000-$20,000 losses, and Nicola Thiele, who secured a new venue in Hahndorf, are scrambling to relocate their weddings and recover funds from other vendors.

Ondeen’s co-founder Deborah Kingsbury said the lease is up for renewal in November and the business will pursue legal avenues while assisting customers in finding new sites. The landlord’s legal representative maintains that the tenant has been served with four default notices and remains in breach. Staff have been denied entry to the premises, and the landlord assures that the highland cows on the property are being cared for.
