OpenAI removes text-chat limits for free and Go users, adds new AI tools

OpenAI announced that, as of next week, the free and Go tiers will no longer impose limits on the number of text chats a user can have with ChatGPT, removing the current rate-restriction for text-only interactions. The company is also adding a “Think” button for these tiers, offering access to deeper reasoning when tackling complex questions. In parallel, the default AI model for all users is being switched to the newly launched GPT-5.6 Luna.

Subscribers to the Plus and Pro plans will receive an upgraded GPT-5.6 Sol, which OpenAI says will make fewer mistakes on queries involving dates, numbers, sources, rules, or assumptions, and will deliver more direct, tightly formatted responses while avoiding unnecessary detail. Additionally, premium users will gain a slider control to set the amount of computational effort the model uses for each answer. Both the Sol upgrade and the slider feature are scheduled to go live on Thursday.
