Orange County Fair Faces GOP Outcry Over Anti-Trump Photo Display
Republican leaders condemned the Orange County Fair for showcasing a picture that appears to wish death on Donald Trump, while also rejecting the party’s request for a booth.
A photograph displayed in the Orange County Fair’s art room, created by Alexander Nguken and titled “The Young Fight,” shows a child holding a “Happy Last Birthday” sign next to a cartoon of Donald Trump, prompting accusations that it glorifies violence against the president. Will O’Neill, chair of the Orange County Republican Party, wrote a scathing letter to fair chairwoman Barbara Bagneris and board members, calling the image unacceptable given recent attempts on Trump’s life and urging caution by public institutions.
O’Neill also objected to the fair’s decision to refuse the Republican Party a booth, a tradition spanning over ten years, and asked for details on how the contentious artwork was approved. The dispute arises as authorities arrested 38-year-old Jeanine John Taele, who was found with a loaded pistol and ammunition while allegedly surveilling a Trump-owned golf course nearby. Taele has pleaded not guilty to four weapons charges, including possession of an unregistered short-barreled rifle.
No comment has been issued by fair officials regarding the photo or the GOP booth denial. The fair runs from July 17 through August 16.
